How YeahBut works

YeahBut takes one excuse through four steps in about 30 seconds: say it, hear it, move, shrink it. Here is each step, and what happens behind the scenes to keep it private and safe.

1

Say it (0 to 5 seconds)

Hold the mic for up to 10 seconds, type up to 150 characters, or tap one of 30 preset excuses. Voice is turned into text on your phone. If your phone cannot do that privately, voice mode switches off and Silent Type takes over.

2

Safety check (under 5 milliseconds)

Before any sound, animation or save, a check on your phone reads the text. Everyday worries pass. If a thought looks like a crisis (self-harm, abuse, an eating disorder), the game stops at once, nothing is stored, and you see helplines for your country.

3

Hear it squeak (about 10 seconds)

The yeah-but is built from your own words and repeats them in a squeaky voice, either your voice pitched up on your phone or cartoon gibberish synced to a comic speech bubble. It throws a tantrum. You laugh at the creature.

4

Move and shrink it (2 minutes of doing)

Pick one of three two-minute physical moves from a deck of 40. After 5 seconds the “Done early, squash him now” button unlocks. The creature shrinks to 18% of its size and puts on a humiliation prop. Share a card if you like, with your words swapped for a preset by default.

Built-in guard rails

5 battles an hour

After 5 completed battles in 60 minutes the creature taps out for 30 minutes. No shame, a fresh 5 afterwards.

Adults only

You confirm you are 18+, that the characters are fictional AI, and that this is a game, not therapy, before you start.

Opt-in everything

Reminders (one a day at most) and analytics are both off until you switch them on.
